PSG start new season with French Super Cup win after dramatic final

PSG won the French Super Cup after a dramatic draw with Marseille, with goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier making key saves and starring in a 4-1 penalty shootout victory.

2025 has been a memorable year for Paris Saint-Germain. They won a total of six trophies. Ligue 1, French Cup, French Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League and Intercontinental Cup. They started the new season at the same pace. They won the French Super Cup at the Jaber Al Ahmed Stadium in Kuwait City. And the hero of this match was PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

PSG and Marseille faced each other in the French Super Cup final. PSG took the lead in the 13th minute of the match. In the 76th minute, Marseille forward Mason Greenwood scored from a penalty to equalise. Then came the trouble. In the 87th minute, PSG centre-back Willian Pacho scored an own goal. PSG was under pressure as Marseille took the lead at the last moment. However, more drama was yet to come. In added time, Goncalo Ramos scored to make the score 2-2 for his team.

After that, the match belonged to the goalkeepers. And there, Chevalier, who recently joined PSG, showed his dominance. After releasing Donnarumma, PSG signed this goalkeeper from Lille. He came and proved himself in a big assignment. He made five saves during regular time. During the penalty shootout, he stopped two shots from Marseille. As a result, PSG won the French Super Cup by winning the penalty shootout 4-1. This is their first title of the current season.

With this victory, they have now won the French Super Cup a total of 14 times, including 12 titles in the last 13 years. Reflecting on the match, Chevalier said that after the team went 2–1 down in the 85th minute, he sensed the momentum had shifted. However, he added that he remained confident about their chances in a penalty shootout, as he was determined to contribute to the team’s success. He said the win felt especially satisfying both for PSG and for himself.
