Rashee Rice, the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver, has become the subject of a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Jones where she has accused the NFL player of physical abuse on several occasions while she was pregnant.

According to reports from AFP, Jones filed the lawsuit on Monday, February 16. Jones claims to have been abused by the NFL player over an 18-month period between 2023 and 2025 and is now seeking damages of over $1 million for the "severe and permanent injuries" she claims to have suffered.

The lawsuit describes the repeated physical abuse Jones received from the NFL player, which included "grabbing, choking, strangling, pushing, throwing, scratching, hitting, headbutting and striking with objects".

"Additionally, he has engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors toward Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, breaking furniture, and locking her out in the middle of the night," the lawsuit states, as reported by The Economic Times.

"Many of these behaviors occurred while Ms. Jones was pregnant."

Background and previous legal trouble

Jones and the NFL wide receiver, who is 25 years old, are parents to two kids. Rice won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs at the end of his rookie year in 2024.

The following year, Rice was given a suspension for six games stemming from the conviction in the multi-vehicle crash. He pled guilty to the felony charges against him, which were for causing a crash resulting in serious bodily injury and racing on a highway that caused bodily harm.

Rice returned to the field after the suspension was over and had 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns over the course of eight games last season. Rice is now entering the final year of the rookie contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Response from Rice's camp

Previously, Jones had shared Instagram images showing a bloodied lip, scratches and bruises, though she did not identify the alleged attacker before deleting the post, reported The Economic Times.

Rice's attorney, Sean Lindsey, told ESPN, as quoted by AFP, that Jones had earlier provided a sworn statement saying Rice had not physically harmed her.

"We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time," Lindsey was quoted as saying by The Economic Times.

In a separate statement cited by The Economic Times quoted the Chiefs saying, "The club is aware [of the lawsuit] and remains in communication with the National Football League."
