AI video boom: CapCut, Descript and Runway lead the race for best AI video editing platforms

AI-powered video editing platforms such as CapCut, Runway and Adobe Premiere Pro are changing how creators edit content by automating several time-consuming tasks.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming part of the video editing process, helping creators speed up workflows and simplify complex edits. From automatic subtitles and scene detection to text-based editing and AI-generated visuals, several platforms are now offering tools designed for both beginners and professionals.

A recent roundup highlighted five AI-powered video editing applications that are gaining attention in 2026 for their features, accessibility and editing support across different types of content creation.

CapCut focuses on social media creators

CapCut continues to remain popular among short-form video creators due to its mobile-friendly editing tools and AI-powered features. The platform offers automated captions, background removal, effects and quick templates aimed at creators making content for platforms like Instagram Reels and TikTok.

The app’s simple interface and ready-to-use templates have helped it attract users looking for faster editing without advanced technical knowledge. AI-assisted tools also reduce manual work during trimming and formatting.

Runway expands AI video generation tools

Runway has gained attention for integrating generative AI into video production workflows. The platform allows users to generate and modify visuals using text prompts while also offering traditional editing capabilities.

Its AI tools can assist with object removal, motion tracking and visual effects generation. Runway is increasingly being used by creators experimenting with AI-generated content and cinematic editing styles.

Descript and Opus Clip simplify editing

Descript has introduced text-based video editing, allowing users to edit footage by editing the transcript itself. The platform also provides AI voice cloning, filler-word removal and automatic transcription features.

Opus Clip, meanwhile, is designed for repurposing long-form content into shorter clips suitable for social media platforms. The AI tool identifies highlights automatically and generates short videos formatted for vertical viewing.
