Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, along with several political leaders, extended Eid ul-Adha greetings as Bakrid was celebrated across India with prayers, gatherings and messages of unity, sacrifice and harmony. From Delhi to Bihar, leaders across party lines highlighted the spirit of compassion and togetherness associated with one of Islam’s most significant festivals.
In a post on X, Modi wrote, “Eid ul-Adha greetings! May this occasion deepen the spirit of brotherhood and happiness in our society. Praying for everyone’s success and good health.”

Bakrid celebrated across India
Eid ul-Adha was celebrated in several parts of the country with devotees gathering at mosques and Eidgahs to offer prayers. Visuals from states including Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu surfaced online as people marked the festival with prayers and celebrations.

Bakrid, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to obey God’s command.
President Murmu highlights spirit of sacrifice and devotion on Bakrid
President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings on the occasion and described the festival as a symbol of “self-surrender, sacrifice, and devotion”.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also said the festival reflects the values of “sacrifice, faith, compassion and forgiveness”.
On the occasion of Eid, BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain offered namaz in Bihar’s Supaul and extended greetings to people across the country. Speaking to ANI, Hussain said, "We extend our Eid greetings to the people of the entire nation of India, and specifically to the people of Bihar. This Eid marks the festival of sacrifice; the people of India, mindful of every sentiment, have come together to celebrate this occasion in unity. May everyone celebrate Eid together in harmony and offer prayers for the progress and prosperity of the nation".
Meanwhile, BJP leader Yaser Jilani from Delhi also shared his message on the festival, urging people to observe traditions responsibly. “My message to everyone is this: please observe 'Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi' strictly within the bounds of the law. This observance serves as a profound reminder of the spirit of sacrifice, the willingness to give up our most cherished possessions for a higher cause...I offer my prayers for the progress and prosperity of the entire nation, for the health and safety of all its citizens,” he added.
