Sony and Insomniac Games have finally pulled back the curtain on Marvel's Wolverine, offering fans their most detailed look yet at the upcoming superhero action title. Revealed during the latest State of Play presentation, the new footage showcases a far grittier and more violent adventure than the studio's previous Marvel outings, while confirming that the game will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
The gameplay presentation introduced players to an original story focused on mutant survival, with James "Logan" Howlett battling powerful enemies in a world where mutants are forced to remain hidden from society. The reveal has generated significant excitement among fans eager to see Insomniac's take on one of Marvel's most iconic characters.
Logan faces new threats in original mutant storyline
According to The Indian Express, the new trailer places Wolverine at the centre of a conflict involving the Reavers, a ruthless group of cybernetically enhanced mercenaries working under industrialist Bolivar Trask. Their mission is to hunt down and capture mutants, creating a dangerous environment for those trying to remain hidden.
The story also brings Jean Grey into the spotlight. The powerful telepath and telekinetic mutant joins Logan in his fight against the growing threat, adding another major X-Men figure to the game's narrative.
According to the game's storyline, Wolverine is drawn back into Team X, a mutant task force that serves as one of the last defences against those targeting mutant communities.

Brutal combat takes centre stage
According to The Indian Express, combat appears to be one of the game's biggest strengths. Wolverine's signature claws form the backbone of the fighting system, allowing players to unleash devastating close-range attacks against enemies.
Insomniac has introduced a range of special abilities known as Techniques, including attacks such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. A new Rage mechanic also plays a crucial role, boosting Logan's strength, activating his regenerative Healing Factor and enabling him to withstand heavy punishment during combat encounters.
At maximum intensity, players can activate Rage Tier 3, a powerful combat state inspired by the acclaimed Marvel comic series Black, White & Blood. The gameplay footage also showcased stealth eliminations, motorcycle pursuits, vehicle combat and large-scale action sequences against heavily armed opponents.
