The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said its re-evaluation and verification portal remained fully operational despite facing an intense wave of cyberattack attempts on the very first day of the application process. The board revealed that while thousands of students logged in to apply for verification and rechecking of their answer scripts, malicious actors simultaneously tried to disrupt the online platform through coordinated attacks.
Flood of suspicious traffic detected
According to CBSE, the most significant threat came in the form of a denial-of-service attack, a tactic commonly used to overwhelm digital systems by bombarding them with an unusually high volume of requests. The board said the portal received nearly 1.5 million hits within a span of less than two minutes during the latest attack attempt.

According to NDTV, such attacks are designed to slow down or completely disable online services. However, CBSE maintained that its systems successfully handled the traffic surge and prevented any interruption to the application process.

Attempts made to access restricted files
According to NDTV, apart from the traffic overload, the board also detected a large number of unauthorised attempts to access files stored on the portal. Officials said more than one lakh such attempts were recorded during the attack.
In a statement, CBSE noted that several malicious actors appeared to be targeting the platform at the same time. Despite these efforts, the board said its cybersecurity infrastructure was able to identify and block suspicious activities before they could affect users or compromise data.
The board did not disclose the origin of the attacks but indicated that security teams were continuously monitoring the platform.

Students advised to continue applications normally
According to NDTV, CBSE sought to reassure students and parents that the portal remained stable throughout the day and that applications for re-evaluation and verification could be submitted without difficulty.
The incident highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges faced by public digital platforms, particularly during periods of high traffic such as examination result announcements and admission-related processes.
