After the markets of Blackberry and Windows phones diminished and eventually led to the vanishing of the operating systems from the market, Android and Apple's iOS have established a duopoly since. But now, there's a option. If you are tired of using Android and iOS phones, Finnish smartphone company Jolla has come up with a new device that runs on Linux OS.
What is the Jolla Phone?
Jolla's Linux-based mobile platform Sailfish OS runs the device. The company had launched a device based on the same software back in 2013, India Today reported.
The Sailfish OS software is resistant to tracking and data collection apparatus. While apprehensions rise all over the world on data privacy in mobile devices and Android devices always being under scrutiny for the said reason, the Linux-based OS gives users more jurisdiction over their digital presence.

Does it run apps?
The Google Play Store and Apple's App Store have been the major players in the mobile applications market. The capability of the respective operating systems to run a vast array of apps have solidified their positions in the purported duopoly.
Jolla has made sure that it doesn't meet the same fate as BlackBerry or Windows. The Jolla Phone will be able to run Android applications.
Jolla AppSupport will be the medium through which Android apps could be run on the device. Along with an option to disable Android modules, a physical privacy switch located on the device's left side disables the microphone, camera, Bluetooth, and sensors to protect the privacy of users.
