Will Aroop Biswas leave the Mamata Banerjee cabinet after resignation?

West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas has resigned from his position following the ruckus at the Salt Lake Stadium, when Argentine football star Lionel Messi visited the stadium. Will the resignation lead to Biswas leaving Mamata Banerjee's cabinet?

West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas has resigned from his position following the ruckus at the Salt Lake Stadium, when Argentine football star Lionel Messi, along with Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul arrived at the stadium for the Kolkata leg of the G.O.A.T. Tour. He had sent a letter about the intent to vacate his position to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, today morning.

Will Aroop Biswas leave the cabinet?

Aroop Biswas is not just the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of the Government of West Bengal. Additionally, he is the Minister of Power in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet. His resignation as the Sports Minister has already been accepted by the Chief Minister.

However, Aroop Biswas will continue his responsibilities as the Minister of Power in the government. Biswas is a member of the West Bengal legislative assembly from the Tollygunge constituency in South 24 Parganas.

Senior officials of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department were called to the state secretariat soon after Biswas expressed his wish to step down from the post. His resignation was accepted soon thereafter by the Chief Minister. Mamata Banerjee will be looking after the department herself till someone is appointed as Biswas's replacement.

Officials face show-cause, suspension

Chief Secretary Manoj Pant issued show-cause notices to Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar on Tuesday. Along with him, Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar has also been show-caused and has been asked to respond within 24 hours. Bidhannagar Deputy Commissioner Aneesh Sarkar has been suspended, and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against him. Principal Secretary of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Rajesh Kumar Singh, has also been show-caused, while Deb Kumar Nandan has been removed from his post as CEO of the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.
