A woman named Mynita S. had her life completely turned upside down by the bite of a venomous spider. An accident that resulted in her skin peeling off "like a snake". She shared this painful journey on Instagram and warned others about how dangerous a brown recluse spider bite can be.
Mynita said this incident happened on May 17, 2025. She was feeling normal when she got bitten by a brown recluse spider, but later her health started deteriorating, and she was hospitalised for two weeks.
She shared a post on her Instagram handle, where she wrote, “Something so unexpected happened to me on May 17th, 2025. I found myself hospitalised for two weeks because I was bit by a Brown Recluse Spider.”
Also, she added, “One day I was perfectly fine, and then…BOOM. I couldn’t walk on my own, couldn’t feed myself, couldn’t wash myself, and couldn’t even keep my eyes open. I lost my independence overnight. My heart rate was stuck between 140-160 for days, laying down in the hospital bed while my oxygen levels dropped dangerously low. Things got so bad, my hemoglobin plummeted to three, and I had to be intubated for days-not even knowing what’s happening to me. My body was literally fighting itself from within.”
Even after getting discharged from the hospital, she was still struggling. She shared a video where she showed large patches of skin peeling off from different parts of her body. She explained as "A Brown Recluse Spider bit me - it had me shedding like a snake and looking like a web. Those things are venomous and deadly! Small in size and mighty in destruction.”
She warned that the brown recluse spider may look small and harmless, but their venom is too deadly.

What is a brown recluse spider?
The brown recluse spider is one of the most dangerous spiders in the world. It is commonly found in warm, dark areas, especially in the southeastern and midwestern United States. It is dark brown in colour, and it has a violin-shaped mark on its back.
When this spider bite is painless at first, that is the main reason why many people do not notice it. After the next day of being bitten, the venom will work; it targets small blood vessels and damages skin cells. It reduces blood flow to the area, and the skin loses its oxygen level. As a result, the damaged skin ended up dying and peeling off after the body's immune system worked to heal itself. Sometimes this turns into life-threatening situations.
