Haseen Mastan Mirza, daughter of late Mumbai underworld figure Haji Mastan, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking justice over allegations of forced marriage, repeated sexual assault, attempted murder and illegal takeover of her property.

Speaking to ANI, Haseen alleged that in 1996, when she was still a minor, she was forcibly married to her maternal uncle’s son. She claimed that she was subjected to repeated sexual assault, physical and mental abuse, and was isolated from her family for years. According to her, the accused misused her identity and documents to take control of her assets and had been married multiple times earlier.

“I was raped, my life was threatened, I was married off as a child, my property was taken, and my identity was hidden. If the laws are stricter, people will fear committing crimes,” she told ANI. Haseen said she had no support at the time and was too young to resist or seek legal help, adding that the trauma led her to attempt suicide on three occasions.

Appeal after years of silence

Her appeal to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister comes days after she posted a video message on social media, claiming that she has been seeking justice for decades but has not received a proper hearing. She alleged that there were attempts on her life and said she continued to live under fear for years.

Haseen also welcomed the Modi government’s law criminalising instant triple talaq, calling it an important step for women’s safety. She said the practice had been misused and demanded stronger legal provisions against forced marriage and sexual crimes, with faster trials and stricter punishment.

At the same time, she urged the media and the public not to repeatedly link her case to her father’s past. “This is not my father’s story. All of this happened after he passed away. I am his daughter, but this is my personal struggle,” she said.

Haseen claimed that after her marriage, she was cut off from her family and only learned about her father’s death nearly two years later. She said she was then left to fend for herself, despite serious threats to her life.
