Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come to Bengal for his two-day Bengal Tour ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. During his visit, the BJP leader unveiled a new slogan for the upcoming polls. The PM has repeatedly stated the new slogan, "Paltano darkar, chai BJP sarkar" (Need Change, Want BJP Government).
Aiming at Modi's new slogan, Trinamool's All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee took a dig at the BJP. Speaking at a road show in Chapra, Nadia, Abhishek Banerjee said, "I agree. Change is needed. Change is necessary. You will be the ones to change. Those who used to start rallies saying Jai Shri Ram are now starting rallies saying Jai Ma Kali, Jai Ma Durga."
Trinamool’s ‘Ran Sankalp Sabha’ campaign intensifies
Abhishek has started the ‘Ran Sankalp Sabha’ campaign across Bengal. He held a rally in Ranaghat, Nadia, and conducted a road show in Chapra on Sunday. During these events, the Trinamool MP criticised the BJP and the Election Commission over financial deprivation by the central government and alleged harassment through the SIR process.
Addressing Modi’s call for changing the government in Bengal during public meetings in Malda and Singur of Hooghly, the All India General Secretary of TMC said, "You want to change the people of Bengal. The people of Bengal haven’t changed because you want to change them through punishment. You want to change people by blocking 100 days’ work, water, shelter, and even their voting rights. The people of Bengal will not change."
In the 2021 Assembly Elections, Trinamool had a 7-1 record in Nadia’s Krishnanagar organisational district. Abhishek has set a target to make it 8-0 this time. He said, "Give me 8-0 in this district. It’s my responsibility to bring the BJP below 50 across Bengal."
During the last Lok Sabha election, the BJP had closely targeted the Krishnanagar seat. Against Trinamool candidate Mahua Moitra, the BJP fielded Amrita Roy, daughter-in-law of the Krishnanagar royal family, and Modi personally spoke to her over the phone, promising to distribute funds confiscated by the ED to the public. Referring to this incident, Banerjee asked, "He (the Prime Minister) had said he would return the money confiscated by ED. It’s been two years now. Have you received even one rupee?"
During the roadshow, the TMC leader paused his speech midway to ensure the safety of an elderly person who had fallen sick.
