Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday intensified the BJP's campaign in poll-bound West Bengal, focusing on citizenship, infiltration and governance. Addressing a rally in Katwa in Purba Bardhaman district, he highlighted plans to accelerate the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) if the party comes to power.

West Bengal is scheduled to vote in two phases on April 23 and 29, with counting set for May 4.

Push for faster CAA implementation

Reaching out to refugee communities, the Prime Minister assured support to Matua and Namasudra families. "I want to tell the Matua and Namasudra refugee families that they are under the protection of the country's Constitution. Modi enacted the CAA law so that Matua, Namasudra, and all refugees get citizenship," news agency PTI quoted PM Modi as saying.

He added, "After the BJP government is formed, the process of granting citizenship under CAA will be accelerated for all eligible applicants."

Strong remarks on infiltration

PM Modi also took a firm position on illegal immigration. "The infiltrators should start packing their bags; it is time to leave. Those who have helped the infiltrators will not be spared," he said.

The remarks formed a key part of the BJP's pitch as it seeks to expand its presence in the state.

The Prime Minister called for a shift towards what he described as "BJP's trust" and development-focused governance.

White paper and probe promise

Outlining further plans, the PM announced that the BJP would release a White Paper on corruption and law and order, along with a probe into political violence.
