In response to Molotov cocktail being hurled against his San Francisco home, Sam Altman came forward, posting an image of his family online, and elaborating on the dangers that come with public conversations about artificial intelligence.
As per the San Francisco Chronicle report, this happened at 3:45 am in the morning when a fireball was said to be flung at his house. While it hit the property, no one got hurt.
The police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Alejandro Daniel Moreno-Gama, in relation to the attack.

‘Images have power’: Altman shares personal note
In a blog post shared on X, Altman revealed details of the incident and posted a rare photograph of his husband, Oliver Mulherin, and their child.
“Here is a photo of my family. I love them more than anything,” he wrote, explaining that he chose to share the image publicly in the hope that it might deter future violence.
“Images have power, I hope… we try to be pretty private, but in this case I am sharing a photo in the hopes that it might dissuade the next person,” he added.

Suspect arrested, investigation underway
The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody after a separate incident near OpenAI’s headquarters, where a man allegedly threatened to set fire to the building.
Authorities linked the individual to both incidents and initiated further investigation.

AI debate and rising tensions
Altman suggested the attack may be linked to heightened tensions surrounding artificial intelligence and recent criticism of his role in the industry.
“There was an incendiary article about me a few days ago… I have underestimated the power of words and narratives,” he wrote, noting that debates around AI have become increasingly charged.
While acknowledging concerns about the rapid development of AI technologies, Altman called for restraint in public discourse. “We should de-escalate the rhetoric and tactics and try to have fewer explosions in fewer homes, figuratively and literally,” he said.
