An elderly man died mysteriously after falling from the third floor of a multi-storey building in Jadavpur. The deceased has been identified as Tapan Das (63).
The incident occurred at a house on 32 Deshabandhu Road in the Kamarpara area on Tuesday midnight. Upon receiving information, Jadavpur police reached the spot. They recovered the body and took it to a local hospital. There, doctors declared him dead. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation.

According to police sources, Tapan's home was in East Purushottampur under the Mandarmani Coastal police station area. He had come to his nephew Arun Nayak's house to see an eye doctor. At the time of the incident, Tapan was going to the toilet.
Police preliminary investigation suggests that he may have lost his balance while crossing the railing and fallen down. Police have also informed that there are multiple injury marks on Tapan's back.
Probe underway
Police have begun questioning Tapan’s nephew, Arun and several neighbours in connection with the incident. However, the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. The body has been recovered and sent to M R Bangur Hospital for post-mortem examination.
An unnatural death case has been registered at Jadavpur police station, following which an investigation has been initiated. Police officials said the actual cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
