Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran spoke to several international media outlets during the first-glimpse launch of Varanasi in Hyderabad last year. One of those interviews, with Collider, was released recently. The interaction has caught fans’ attention, with Priyanka and Mahesh’s playful banter being widely shared online, hailed as “meme” material and reminding viewers of Mahesh’s aura and popular moments of his career.
During the interview, Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran were asked which past project had changed them both as actors and as individuals.

Mahesh said he has been acting for over two decades, prompting Priyanka to point out that his career began much earlier, when he was just four years old. When Mahesh attempted to name Varanasi as the film that changed him, Priyanka playfully stopped him, asking him not to “cheat” and to mention a project from before the film.
Watch the teasing banter
Mahesh Babu replied, “I can’t, there’s a lot of films. Every film changes you, to be honest,” to which Priyanka mumbled, "Oh my god," under her breath. Mahesh stopped talking and asked her "what?" as to what she meant by that. He likely thought that she is reacting to what he just said. But Priyanka explained, "No, I'm trying to think about mine." In which Mahesh replied with ateasing attitude, "But, I am talking here." In which Priyanka said 'Oh My god' again, and a cute banter starts, as she didn't realise she thought out loud.

Fans react to the 'chemistry'
Fans found this very funny, and one user wrote on social media, "Love the chemistry between Priyanka and Mahesh". Another one stated, "Mahesh Babu being himself after a long time feels fresh and nice".
Another commented, "That 'What !?' Carries Aura."
Another user commented, "The best thing about Varanasi is not SSR, not the scale, not the scope nor the grandeur. It is to what length Mahesh Babu can go to execute what Rajamouli imagined, I think this is more exciting & exhilarating for us fans to look forward to watch Varanasi."
The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by several profiles and made memes about Priyanka's reaction. SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi will be released in theatres on April 7, 2027.
