Ramakrishna Mission launches state’s first CBSE English-medium school in Jhargram

With the launch of the state’s first Ramakrishna Mission-run CBSE English-medium school, Jhargram is set to quietly position itself as a future national centre for value-based education.

In the next decade, Jhargram district will witness its education spreading across India. Swami Subirananda, General Secretary of Belur Ramakrishna Math and Mission, said this on Sunday after inaugurating the primary section of the CBSE board at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith in Srirampur, Jhargram. He said, "We will keep special attention on this school. We have started the primary section. We have received a great response. We will provide education for building human beings and character."

State’s first Ramakrishna Mission-run CBSE English-medium school

It is known that this is the first CBSE board English medium school in the state, run by Ramakrishna Mission. The foundation stone of the primary branch of the school was laid by Swami Alokeshananda, Assistant Secretary of the Jhargram branch of the Mission, in the Srirampur area of ward number 16 of Jhargram town. He said, "Teaching started in this medium a year ago. Today is its formal inauguration."

The foundation stone of the CBSE board secondary and higher secondary building was laid by Swami Bimalatmananda, Assistant General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Construction work of the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith building started in September 2024 on 10 acres of land adjacent to the sub-centre of Jhargram Ramakrishna Mission Ashram in the Srirampur area. The single-story building was completed by March 2025. Teaching started there in April 2025. Admission started from first to fourth grade in the last academic year. Currently, the number of students is 160. From April in the upcoming 2026-27 academic year, arrangements will be made for teaching 400 students from first to fifth grade. Each class has two sections. The three-story building has 16 classrooms, one lab, one multipurpose hall, one library, a science lab, a computer room and an office – the total cost for the three-story building was seven crore rupees.

Nursery Classes to Begin from 2027–28

Swami Vedpurushananda, Secretary of Jhargram Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, said, "Teaching will also start in nursery from the 2027-28 academic year." Present at the program were Swami Sadananda, Secretary of Nimpith Ashram, District Magistrate Akanksha Bhaskar, District President Chinmayi Marandi, Mayor Shiuli Singh and other public representatives.
