State budget brings relief for ASHA, ICDS workers with allowance hike

The state budget announces a ₹1,000 monthly allowance hike, maternity benefits and ₹5 lakh compensation for ASHA, ICDS workers and para-teachers.

The state budget has brought major relief for ASHA workers. The monthly allowance for ASHA workers has been increased by ₹1,000, and the revised amount will come into effect from April this year.

Along with the allowance hike, the state government has announced 180 days of maternity leave for ASHA workers. They will now receive maternity benefits on par with other women employees working under the government.

In another significant announcement, the budget stated that if an ASHA worker dies while on duty, their family will receive a one-time financial assistance of ₹5 lakh. An allocation of ₹100 crore has been made for this purpose in the next financial year.

ICDS workers’ allowance increase

The budget has also announced relief for ICDS workers. Acknowledging their role in providing childcare, child health and nutrition services, the state government has increased the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers by ₹1,000 each. This increase will take effect from April.

In the event of death while on duty, their families will receive a one-time assistance of ₹5 lakh.

Para-teachers’ allowance increase

Para-teachers and other education-related staff have also benefited from the budget announcements.

The monthly honorarium of para-teachers, Shiksha Bandhu, assistants, extension workers, chief extension workers, as well as special education and management staff, has been increased by ₹1,000 each from April this year.

If death occurs while on duty, their families will also be entitled to a one-time financial assistance of ₹5 lakh.
