A new scheme aimed at supporting the state’s unemployed youth was announced in the Assembly on Thursday. While presenting the state budget, Finance Department Minister-in-Charge Chandrima Bhattacharya introduced the ‘Banglar Yuva-Sathi’ scheme, under which the state government will provide ₹1,500 per month to unemployed individuals.

Bhattacharya began presenting the budget at 2:30 PM and said the scheme is intended to guide young people towards employment opportunities. The programme is primarily meant for unemployed youth, and detailed guidelines have been outlined in the budget document, including eligibility criteria and conditions.

According to the budget, youth who have passed secondary education will be eligible to apply. Unemployed individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 years can enrol under the scheme. Once approved, beneficiaries will receive ₹1,500 every month for a maximum period of five years.

The budget document also makes it clear that those already receiving benefits under any other state government social security scheme will not be eligible for this allowance.

However, education-related schemes have been excluded from this restriction, meaning beneficiaries can continue to receive scholarships along with the allowance.

For the 2026–27 financial year, the state has allocated ₹5,000 crore for the implementation of the scheme.
