No more open surgery for appendix, hernia, uterine tumours, or gallbladder stones.
Now, state-of-the-art laparoscopy surgery will be performed at Durgapur Sub-divisional Hospital itself.
The Rotary Club of Durgapur (Central) is providing support. Operations will be conducted by making very small incisions in the abdomen and using cameras and thin instruments through them. There will be minimal blood loss. Patients will recover quickly.
The installation of the laparoscopy unit was completed on Friday.
Today, Saturday, the unit will be inaugurated in the presence of state minister Pradip Majumdar, Durgapur-Asansol Development Authority and Sub-divisional Hospital Patient Welfare Committee chairman Kobi Datta, and hospital superintendent Dhiman Mandal.

The superintendent informed that the hospital has several skilled surgeons to perform laparoscopic surgery. First, a demonstration will be given by the machine manufacturing company, and then surgeries will begin within a few days.
At the same time, he informed that while the hospital has installed state-of-the-art CT scan machines and increased the number of beds, modernisation is still needed for several other departments, including dialysis, gynaecology, and ENT. Kobi Datta said, "This hospital will be further improved in terms of medical services."
