The Board of Secondary Education has been strict from the beginning to prevent cheating in examinations. Despite all the efforts, some students attempted to use modern technology to evade the attention of examiners. Eventually, such an attempt was detected during the ongoing secondary examinations, leading to strict action.

Mobile phones inside exam hall

The examinations of two female students from Cooch Behar’s Maruganj High School were cancelled after they were caught cheating using mobile phones. The candidates had been assigned seats at Talliguri High School. According to allegations, the two students entered the examination centre carrying Android mobile phones without drawing attention.

Teachers said the students kept their phones beside them while writing the examination. They allegedly took turns going to the toilet repeatedly and returned to the hall to continue copying answers from their phones. It is also alleged that they sought answers using AI tools and wrote them in their answer sheets. The malpractice reportedly continued for nearly two hours after the examination began.

Around 1 PM, a female teacher noticed the irregularities, following which both students were caught red-handed and their examinations were immediately cancelled.

Board cancels exams and higher authorities informed

Jayanta Kumar Pal, convenor of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for Cooch Behar district, said the entire matter has been reported to higher authorities. He confirmed that the two students will not be allowed to appear for the examinations this year, and further action will be decided by the Board.
