Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee faced protests and alleged physical assault during a visit to Sonarpur on Saturday, with demonstrators hurling eggs, raising slogans against him and surrounding his convoy.
According to reports, protesters shouted "chor" (thief) slogans as Banerjee entered the area. Eggs were also thrown at him during the demonstration. Amid the tense situation, security personnel reportedly made him wear a helmet for protection.
Black flags shown near Kamalgazi
Banerjee had travelled to Sonarpur to visit the home of a party worker who was allegedly attacked.

On his way to the location, a group of protesters staged a demonstration near Kamalgazi and showed black flags. Despite the protest, the Trinamool Congress leader continued towards his destination by car.

Vehicle stopped as protests intensify
The situation escalated when Banerjee reached the locality where the party worker lived. Protesters allegedly blocked his vehicle, preventing it from moving forward.
With the road blocked, Banerjee got out of the car and attempted to continue his journey on a motorcycle.
Allegations of assault surface
During the commotion, allegations emerged that Banerjee was physically assaulted by people from the crowd. Reports also claimed that his shirt was torn during the incident.
As tensions mounted, his security team stepped in and reportedly made him wear a helmet to shield him from further attacks while he moved through the area.
The incident triggered high drama in Sonarpur and drew attention to the tense atmosphere surrounding the Trinamool MP's visit to the area.
