US aerospace giant Boeing on Friday confirmed that China has committed to purchasing 200 aircraft, marking a major breakthrough in aviation trade ties between the two countries.
The announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump concluded his visit to Beijing, where discussions with Chinese leaders focused on trade and broader economic cooperation.

"We had a very successful trip to China and accomplished our major goal of reopening the China market to orders for Boeing aircraft," the company was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg was part of the US delegation that travelled to China during Trump’s visit.
The company further stated, "This included an initial commitment for 200 aircraft and we expect further commitments will follow after this initial tranche."

More aircraft orders may follow
According to Boeing, the 200-aircraft commitment could be only the beginning of a larger agreement with China, one of the world’s biggest aviation markets.
"We now look forward to continually addressing China's aircraft demand," the company added.
Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity earlier this week, Trump referred to the agreement and said: "I think it was a commitment."
"That's a lot of jobs," the president added.
Trump hints at larger future deal
While returning to the United States aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested that the final deal could become significantly larger over time.
He told reporters the agreement included "a promise of 750 planes, which will be by far the largest order ever, if they do a good job with the 200".

China’s previous major Boeing order came in 2017 during Trump’s first term as president. At that time, Beijing agreed to purchase 300 single-aisle and wide-body aircraft in a deal valued at around $37 billion.
Reports in US media over recent months had suggested China was preparing a large order involving Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft along with 787 Dreamliners and 777 jets.
