CBSE has come out with an official statement amid rising controversy regarding the CBSE Result 2026 for Class 12, following the complaints of the students, their parents, and teachers regarding unanticipated low scores in core science subjects.
CBSE has defended its OSM evaluation system and informed that the CBSE class 12 revaluation process will start on May 19.
The controversy gathered steam on social media platforms when some students alleged that they have scored well in competitive exams such as JEE but performed poorly or secured unanticipated low scores in CBSE subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
CBSE says OSM system ensures fairness and transparency
In a statement shared through social media, CBSE said the On-Screen Marking system was introduced to improve transparency, consistency and fairness in the evaluation process. According to the board, the digital assessment model helps examiners award proper step-wise marks while reducing the chances of manual errors during checking.

The board also reiterated that students must secure at least 33 per cent marks separately in theory and practical examinations to pass a subject under existing CBSE rules.

Re-evaluation process to begin from May 19
CBSE has declared that those students who are not satisfied with their performance can approach CBSE for re-evaluation from May 19 onwards.
Candidates seeking re-evaluation need to first apply for copies of their answer sheets evaluated by the board. Following a thorough review of the same, they can ask for confirmation of marks or re-evaluation of particular questions.
It is also mentioned that corrective measures will be taken if any discrepancy is observed during the review process. It is anticipated that CBSE will soon publish a schedule for the re-evaluation process along with the relevant fee details at its official website.

Students continue raising concerns online
The issue caused heated discussions on various social networking sites, where numerous students found it hard to believe how those who had qualified for competitive entrance tests were having difficulty passing the board exams. Many teachers and parents have also asked for more transparency in the marking scheme, particularly in the science subjects where the majority of the grievances seem to be coming from.
The CBSE, however, reiterated that the online submission module was developed in order to achieve uniformity in marking, which was a major problem in various centers. The board also stated that a student who fails in any subject can also be a candidate for compartment exams.
