Kamala Harris, the former Vice President of the United States, has indicated that she may run for the 2028 presidential election. She made her comments in response to a question regarding whether she would run for president during a public event in the United States.
She replied, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it,” while speaking to National Action Network, a group founded by Al Sharpton. Her remarks mark one of the clearest signals yet that she could seek the Democratic nomination again after her 2024 defeat.

Signals of a political comeback
Harris, who served as Vice President under Joe Biden from 2020 to 2024, said her time in office gave her a close understanding of the presidency.
“I served for four years being a heartbeat away from the presidency… I know what the job is and I know what it requires,” she said.
She added that her recent travels across the US had reinforced her view that “the status quo is not working” for many Americans, suggesting a continued engagement with national political issues.
This is not the first time Harris has hinted at another run. In an earlier interview with the BBC, she said she was “not done” with public service and expressed confidence that a woman would eventually become US president.
Background and political context
In 2024, Harris emerged as the Democratic Party presidential nominee after Joe Biden stepped down due to health reasons. While she received the endorsement of Biden, she ultimately lost the election to Republican Donald Trump, who won the popular and Electoral votes.

Prior to her vice presidency, she has been an elected official in the United States, first as a U.S. senator, then as the Attorney General of California
Nevertheless, there are possibilities that 2028 might present hurdles in her political ambitions as some segments of Democratic voters are seeking new leadership following the party’s 2024 loss.
