A tense scene unfolded Sunday night at San Francisco airport inside terminal 3. Federal agents detained a Guatemalan woman, and a video of it went viral. The footage shows the woman in handcuffs while a child cries nearby. Passengers questioned the officers and asked for their identification.

The video spread quickly on social media and sparked questions about increased immigration enforcement. DHS said the arrest involved a family that has been under removal orders since 2019.

DHS says arrest was a part of their enforcement action

Officials told Fox News, “The woman was part of a Guatemalan migrant family that had been under removal orders since 2019.” Authorities said the woman tried to run while being escorted, so agents had to restrain her again.

DHS called the detention “a routine enforcement action rather than a random incident involving travellers.”

Officials say this was an isolated incident

Airport authorities said the arrest was not part of a larger enforcement effort. A spokesperson told Fox News that there was “no reason to suspect broader enforcement action” at the airport and called the episode isolated.

Police present, no disruption was reported

San Francisco police were at the scene but did not intervene. Airport operations continued normally, with no impact on flights or passenger processing. The identities of the woman and child have not been released.

The viral video highlights the human side of immigration enforcement, sparking public debate over ICE operations at U.S. airports.
