Tensions between the United States and Iran are sharply rising as reports suggest a possible military confrontation could be imminent. An old social media post by US President Donald Trump from 2011 is now circulating again amid the crisis. In that post on X, Trump said former President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran to get elected.

Recent reports suggest any US strike on Iran could last for weeks and be broader than recent limited operations. The Pentagon has moved more forces into the Middle East, heightening fears of conflict. While some officials speak of diplomacy, military options remain on the table.

What's happening on the ground

According to current reports, the US military is reinforcing its presence near Iran. Air and naval assets have been sent to the region, and preparations for possible strikes are underway. Officials say a final call could come as soon as this weekend, with President Trump weighing the decision, Hindustan Times reported.

Meanwhile, Iran's top atomic energy official has issued a firm statement on nuclear policy. Mohammad Eslami said no country can take away Iran's right to nuclear enrichment, which is a key part of its atomic programme. He described enrichment as fundamental to any peaceful nuclear activity and said Iran's programme is being carried out within International Atomic Energy Agency rules.

Is time running out?

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog has warned that the time for diplomacy may be running out. He said the growing US military build-up in the Middle East puts pressure on ongoing talks and reduces the window for a negotiated agreement. The agency has proposed several solutions, but progress has been slow, HT reported.
