US President Donald Trump has once again sparked discussion around Mount Rushmore after sharing an AI-generated image showing himself alongside the four American presidents carved into the historic monument.

The image was posted on Trump’s Truth Social platform without any caption or explanation. It depicted the President standing beside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, whose faces are sculpted into the granite cliffs of South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore.

The upload is part of a growing trend in which Trump has shared AI-generated visuals portraying himself in dramatic or symbolic settings on social media.

A ‘dream’ Trump has spoken about before

The idea of Trump appearing on Mount Rushmore is not new.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem had earlier recalled a 2018 Oval Office meeting in which Trump told her it was his “dream” to have his face added to the monument.

Trump later addressed the reports during a 2020 campaign speech, claiming media coverage had attempted to portray the idea negatively. At the same time, he argued that his administration’s accomplishments justified consideration for inclusion on the landmark, per a report by Firstpost.

Why these four Presidents were chosen

Mount Rushmore was designed by sculptor Gutzon Borglum to represent key phases of American history through four presidents.

George Washington symbolised the founding of the United States, while Thomas Jefferson represented territorial expansion through the Louisiana Purchase. Theodore Roosevelt was selected to reflect economic growth and national progress, and Abraham Lincoln represented the preservation of the Union during the Civil War.

Political support and AI concerns

In recent years, some of Trump’s political allies have pushed the idea further. Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna had previously backed legislative proposals calling on the Department of the Interior to explore adding Trump’s likeness to the monument.

Meanwhile, officials including Interior Secretary Doug Burgum have publicly suggested that the site has enough structural space for another face.

The White House’s increasing use of AI-generated images has also drawn criticism from misinformation experts, who argue that such visuals can blur the distinction between reality and fabrication online.
