Two American fighter planes have been shot down while American helicopters have also been targeted in just a period of 24 hours, leading to an escalation of hostilities in the ongoing conflict between America and Iran.

According to information from US officials quoted by Reuters, an F-15E Strike Eagle and another A-10 Warthog aircraft were shot down during the missions conducted as part of the conflict. A search mission for the pilot has been initiated as his whereabouts are yet unknown.

This is despite the numerous threats issued by US President Donald Trump, warning Iran to return to negotiations or face severe consequences.

What happened in the last 24 hours

Early reports coming out of Iran stated that an F-35 fighter plane was shot down above central Iran. However, US officials later clarified that the aircraft was an F-15E Strike Eagle.

Later on the same day, an American A-10 Warthog aircraft was hit during flight over Kuwait and crashed there according to Reuters. It seems that the pilot successfully parachuted out of the plane. The F-15E is a strike plane, which is flown by two people, whereas the A-10 is a close air support aircraft.

A helicopter rescue and strike

Out of the total three personnel, who were part of both these attacks, two have already been rescued. However, one is still missing and both Iranian and American forces are looking for him.

Two more Black Hawks used in the rescue effort were reportedly fired upon by Iranians. Officials said the helicopters managed to exit the area, though the condition of those onboard has not been disclosed.

Iran’s response and messaging

Iranian officials and state-linked accounts shared visuals claiming to show the aircraft being struck. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf posted on X that the US campaign had shifted from broader military goals to recovering its personnel.

The statement reflects a shift in tone from Tehran, as public messaging around the conflict intensifies alongside battlefield developments.

US response remains cautious

The White House has not issued a detailed public response on the incidents. Reuters reported that Trump was receiving updates on the rescue operation. The Pentagon and US Central Command have not immediately commented on the sequence of events.

The latest developments underline the risks of further escalation, even as diplomatic signals continue to emerge intermittently from both sides.
