All speculation came true on Sunday as an understanding was reached between Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizens Party (NCP). Following the announcement, widespread discontent has been observed among a section of the NCP. Adding to the party's discomfort, former advisor to the Yunus government, Mahfuz Alam, announced that he would not be part of the NCP.
What did Mahfuz Alam?
Mahfuz Alam made the announcement through a post on his verified Facebook page. His statement, issued soon after the Jamaat–NCP alliance was made public, is being seen as politically significant. In his post, he wrote:
"My position is clear. I have spoken about many issues, including a new political and economic framework, a cultural struggle against fascism, resistance to social fascism, reconciliation, and building a society based on responsibility and compassion. My July comrades from both organisations have repeatedly spoken about these ideas. But will they embrace them? I made every effort to establish the NCP as a broad July umbrella in an independent manner. However, for many reasons, that was not possible."

Opposition to Jamaat-NCP alliance
The young leader said that maintaining his political position and principles was more important to him than becoming a candidate for the Jamaat-NCP alliance. It may be noted that Mahfuz Alam was one of the prominent faces of the anti-Sheikh Hasina government movement in July last year and also served as a member of the advisory council. After stepping down from that role, speculation about his possible candidature from the NCP had intensified.

On the same day, Taznuva Zabin also resigned from the NCP. She announced her decision in a Facebook post, stating that her resignation was prompted by the party's alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.
