The biggest tremor was registered at 8:36 am local time with its epicenter situated at 30.271N and 69.733E in Balochistan Province. The quake occurred at the depth of 40 kilometers and became the most powerful one registered in the country during the last 24 hours.

Series of earthquakes recorded over 24 hours

The latest earthquake was preceded by three other tremors recorded in Pakistan over the last 24 hours. On Saturday, an earthquake with the magnitude of 4.3 was recorded at 6:15 am local time with its depth equal to 10 kilometers. Two days earlier, on Friday, two earthquakes with the magnitudes of 4.5 and 4.7 occurred at 10:55 am and 11:27 am respectively at the same depth of 10 kilometers.

The EMSC confirmed the information about all four earthquakes that were registered. The fact that earthquakes happened several times in such a short time frame has attracted attention of experts who have not commented on whether this is a sequence or not yet.

Pakistan lies in an active seismic zone

Pakistan is situated near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making parts of the country particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Pakistan frequently experience seismic activity due to ongoing tectonic movement.
