As the Premier League season enters its final stretch, April is shaping up to be the defining month for Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal are chasing their first league title since 2004 and currently hold a nine-point lead with seven games remaining. However, history suggests this is the period where pressure builds. Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have made April their strongest month. The team have won 30 of their 38 league games in this period, losing just three. Their recent record is even stronger, with 19 wins and two draws in their last 21 April matches. In contrast, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have struggled during the same stretch. They have lost seven league games in April under him, including key defeats that hurt title hopes in previous seasons.

Crucial fixtures set to test both sides

The biggest moment could come when City host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on April 19, a match that could shift momentum in the title race. City still has a game in hand and the experience of closing gaps late in the season. Guardiola has made it clear his side must win every remaining game to stay in contention. Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to extend its lead before that clash when they face Bournemouth. Arteta has stressed the importance of every game as the season nears its end, especially with his side finishing runners-up in the past three seasons.

Fine margins could decide the title

Even small slip-ups could prove costly at this stage. Arsenal dropped crucial points last season with draws against teams like Everton, Brentford and Crystal Palace, while defeats to City and Aston Villa derailed their challenge.

Although their recent April form has improved, the pressure of maintaining a lead remains a big test. On paper, Arsenal’s fixtures appear slightly easier, with home games against Bournemouth and Newcastle. The city, on the other hand, faces tougher challenges, including trips to Chelsea and a final-day clash against Aston Villa. Still, given City’s dominance in April and Arsenal’s mixed record, the title race remains wide open. The coming weeks could ultimately decide whether Arsenal finally end their long wait or City once again surge ahead at the crucial moment.
