Fresh off the success of his breakout horror film Obsession, filmmaker and former YouTube creator Curry Barker is expanding the story's universe with his next feature, Anything But Ghosts.

Speaking at a recent Q&A, Barker revealed that Anything But Ghosts exists in the same world as Obsession, his low-budget horror sensation that has become one of the biggest surprise hits of the year.

A shared universe

Barker said that audiences will find direct links between the two films, although Anything But Ghosts will feature a different premise and tone.

As per news18 quoted, according to the filmmaker, the new movie follows two fake paranormal investigators who unexpectedly encounter real ghosts. While Obsession leaned heavily into supernatural horror, Barker has described the upcoming project as having a darker comedic edge while remaining grounded in the same universe.

As per news18 quoted in their report, he also confirmed that the film contains references to events from Obsession, including a news report that acknowledges the aftermath of the earlier movie's storyline.

Star-studded cast

Anything But Ghosts features a cast that includes Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard and Violet McGraw alongside Barker and longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. The film is backed by Blumhouse Productions and will be distributed by Focus Features.

Barker's rapid rise

The announcement comes amid a remarkable rise for Barker, who first gained attention through YouTube horror projects before breaking into mainstream filmmaking. His 2026 film Obsession was produced for less than $1 million and went on to become a major box-office success, earning widespread acclaim from critics and audiences.
