More than four decades after becoming a global pop-culture phenomenon, He-Man is making his long-awaited return to cinemas.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the live-action adaptation of Mattel's iconic franchise, is set to release in India on June 5. Directed by Travis Knight, the film combines fantasy, science fiction and action while revisiting one of the most recognisable stories of the 1980s.
With a major Hollywood cast, dubbed Indian versions and encouraging early reviews, the film is generating considerable interest among both longtime fans and younger audiences discovering the franchise for the first time.

The battle for Eternia begins again
The film follows Prince Adam, the rightful heir to the kingdom of Eternia, who has spent years away from his homeland. His life changes after he discovers the legendary Sword of Power, unlocking his destiny as He-Man, the most powerful warrior in Eternia.
As the kingdom faces a growing threat from Skeletor, who seeks control of Castle Grayskull and its immense power, Adam must embrace his role as protector and lead the fight against darkness.
The story retains many of the core elements that made the original animated series popular while introducing a more modern cinematic scale.
Star-studded cast leads the reboot
British actor Nicholas Galitzine headlines the film as Prince Adam and He-Man.
Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto takes on the role of Skeletor, one of fantasy entertainment's most iconic villains. The supporting cast includes Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn.
Several fan-favourite characters from the franchise, including Ram-Man, Mekaneck and Fisto, also feature in the film.

Positive early reactions
Early reviews suggest the film has struck a chord with many critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Masters of the Universe currently holds a critics' score of 75 per cent ahead of its theatrical debut.
Reviewers have praised the film's action sequences, visual spectacle and nostalgic appeal. Many have also highlighted Nicholas Galitzine's performance and the film's ability to balance classic franchise elements with a contemporary storytelling approach.
Some critics, however, have noted that pacing and narrative depth occasionally fall short of the film's ambitious scale.
Special focus on Indian audiences
The makers are also targeting Indian audiences through multiple dubbed versions.
Meezaan Jafri has voiced He-Man in Hindi, while veteran actor Jaaved Jaaferi lends his voice to Skeletor in the Hindi adaptation.
For regional audiences, actors Karthik, Nikhil Siddhartha and Unni Mukundan have voiced He-Man in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam respectively. Adithya Menon has provided the voice for Skeletor across all three southern-language versions.

The multilingual release is expected to broaden the film's appeal across different regions of the country.
A nostalgic franchise gets a modern revival
The release marks one of the most ambitious attempts to revive a classic toy-based franchise for modern audiences.
For older viewers, it offers a return to the world of Eternia that defined a generation of childhood memories. For younger audiences, it serves as an introduction to a character who remains one of fantasy entertainment's most enduring heroes.
Whether driven by nostalgia or curiosity, audiences will soon get to decide if He-Man's return is powerful enough to conquer a new era of blockbuster filmmaking.
