It was a normal day for the England cricket team and was meant to be a routine travel day, but it turned out uncomfortable as an off-field incident at Brisbane airport drew unwanted attention. As the squad made its way to Adelaide ahead of the third Ashes Test, a confrontation between a team security staff and a television cameraman heated up and took all the attention towards them shifting from cricket.

Heated exchange at Brisbane airport

According to reports, the incident took place in a public area of the airport where an Australian TV crew was filming the England players. After a few minutes, one of England’s security staff became unhappy as a 7News camera operator was getting closer to the players.

As informed by HT cricket, a footage later showed that the security official extended his arm toward the cameraman as the group moved down an escalator. He was heard asking the cameraman to move away, and at one point appeared to push him back. Netizens reacted saying that the moment and the exchange felt tense and unnecessary, even though it lasted only a short time.

Broadcaster says issue is being handled seriously

As quoted by HT cricket, a Channel 7 spokesperson later said that the network was taking the matter seriously and that it was being handled through appropriate channels. The spokesperson stated that the camera operator was physically confronted despite carrying out routine filming in a public space respectfully and professionally, adding that the safety and well-being of staff remain the network’s top priority.

The timing of the incident is far from ideal for England, who are already facing pressure after going behind in the Ashes series. With the third Test approaching, the team will be hoping to leave this distraction behind and refocus on their cricket. Though, no detailed response has come from England’s camp yet.
