Honda Cars India is preparing a renewed push in the Indian market with three strong hybrid SUVs set to launch over the next phase. With competition intensifying, the brand is shifting focus toward electrified SUVs to regain momentum. Currently, Honda’s India lineup is limited to models like the Honda City, Honda Elevate and Honda Amaze. The upcoming hybrid SUVs aim to strengthen their presence in the fast-growing SUV segment.

Elevate Hybrid leads the charge

The first model expected is the hybrid version of the Honda Elevate. Initially planned as an electric vehicle, the project was reworked into a hybrid offering. The Elevate Hybrid is likely to use a system similar to the Honda City e:HEV, pairing a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This setup allows short-distance EV-only driving, while seamlessly switching to petrol power at higher speeds. Honda is also developing a lighter and more efficient hybrid system, although it remains unclear if it will debut with this model.

ZR-V to bring premium hybrid appeal

Next is the Honda ZR-V, expected to arrive by the end of 2026. Likely to be sold as a fully imported unit, it will sit below the Honda CR-V in the global lineup. The ZR-V is expected to come packed with premium features, including advanced infotainment, a high-end sound system and Honda’s ADAS suite. It will likely be powered by a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid system and eCVT gearbox.

New 7-seater SUV in the pipeline

Honda is also developing a new seven-seater SUV based on its upcoming PF2 platform. This architecture is designed to support hybrid powertrains and will underpin future models. The three-row SUV is expected to be heavily localised, helping Honda keep pricing competitive. It will target popular models like the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV700.

Hybrid strategy takes centre stage

With these three SUVs, Honda is clearly betting on strong hybrid technology as a bridge between conventional petrol cars and full electric vehicles. If executed well, this strategy could help the brand regain relevance in India’s crowded SUV market while offering buyers a balance of efficiency and performance.
