A shocking incident from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla has triggered widespread anger after a video surfaced online showing a doctor allegedly beating a patient inside the hospital premises. The altercation reportedly took place on Monday and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
The patient, identified as Arjun Panwar, had visited the hospital for medical tests and had recently undergone a bronchoscopy. According to Panwar, he began experiencing breathing trouble and lay down on a bed in another ward to recover. It was then that the confrontation allegedly began.
Panwar claimed the doctor questioned his presence in the ward and spoke to him rudely. When he objected and asked to be spoken to respectfully, the situation escalated.
As per reports, “I had just undergone a bronchoscopy and was struggling to breathe. When I asked for oxygen, the doctor questioned my admission status,” Panwar said.

Clash at Shimla Hospital, probe ordered
He further alleged that the doctor dismissed his request for respectful communication, saying, “tu is just tu”. When Panwar questioned this tone, the doctor allegedly lost his temper.
“I requested that he speak to me with respect, but he became confrontational. He responded by saying, 'tu is just tu'. When I asked if he spoke to his family in such a manner, he claimed I was getting 'personal' and began hitting me,” he added.

The viral video shows the doctor repeatedly striking Panwar while he lies on the hospital bed, shielding himself. Following the incident, a large number of people gathered at the hospital demanding strict action.
The IGMC administration has formed a three-member inquiry committee. Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the panel will submit its report shortly.
