Why does "hangxiety" occur?

Drinking alcohol doesn't just harm the liver. Alcohol also affects your brain. Particularly, it affects the brain's neurotransmitter levels. When you drink alcohol, GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) and serotonin levels increase. This reduces anxiety and makes you feel cheerful.

When you stop drinking alcohol, GABA levels suddenly drop. The brain then becomes more excited than before. You then feel restlessness in your body. Alongside this, anxiety keeps increasing. In some cases, panic attacks also occur.

What effects does it have on the body?

Besides this, drinking alcohol dehydrates the body. Water leaves the body through urination. This often disrupts hormonal balance as well. Many people then experience symptoms like headaches, fatigue, dryness around the lips, and foul-smelling urine. This isn't the end. Drinking alcohol severely disrupts sleep. You can't sleep due to hangovers. This creates even more anxiety.

Physical and mental health are damaged due to alcohol consumption. Therefore, many people call this condition "hangxiety." However, there are ways to control this "hangxiety." By following a few guidelines, you can avoid "hangxiety."
