Indian Railways' fares for various long-distance trains are increasing from Friday (December 26). The railways have already announced how much fares will increase for different distances. In this context, the share prices of multiple stocks related to Indian Railways also jumped significantly. In the trading session after Christmas, shares of several stocks, including Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Ircon International, and Jupiter Wagons, saw substantial increases in their share prices.
On Friday, RVNL's share price increased by 9.7 per cent to ₹379. IRFC's share price rose by 6.7 per cent to ₹129. Jupiter Wagons' share price increased by 3.60 per cent to ₹352. IRCTC's share price rose by 1.9 per cent to ₹693.
Railways have increased fares only for long-distance trains. No changes have been made to fares for suburban trains and season tickets. Let's see how much fares are set to increase for different types of coaches.

Second Class Coach
Up to 215 kilometres: Fare unchanged
216 to 750 kilometres: ₹5 increase
751 to 1,250 kilometres: ₹10 increase
1,251 to 1,750 kilometres: ₹15 increase
1,751 to 2,250 kilometres: ₹20 increase
For mail and express trains, fares are increasing by 2 paise per kilometre for both non-AC and AC coaches. This covers sleeper, first class, AC chair car, AC three-tier, AC two-tier, and AC first class.
