Actress Parno Mittra joined the Trinamool Congress today, ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. She had joined the BJP in 2019. On Friday, she joined the ruling party of West Bengal at the Trinamool Bhavan in the presence of state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya and Trinamool leader Jay Prakash Majumdar.
What did Parno Mittra say?
After joining Trinamool, Parno said, "Today is a very big day for me. My journey on a new path begins. I will work under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. I certainly joined the BJP six years ago. Things did not progress the way I had thought. People do make mistakes. The time has come to correct that, so I am joining Trinamool."
Parno Mittra started her career on the popular television show 'Khela'. She gained popularity after starring opposite Anjan Dutta in the movie 'Ranjana Aami Aar Ashbona'. She has acted in several movies and series since.

Parno Mittra's political career
Mittra's political career started in 2019 when she joined the BJP after the party won 18 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. She contested on a BJP ticket from the Baranagar assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas against Trinamool Congress's former MLA Tapas Roy. Mittra clocked 31.49 percent of the votes in the constituency and lost the elections by a margin of more than 35 thousand votes. Tapas Roy joined the BJP in 2024.

Since her electoral loss, Parno Mittra has maintained distance from political corridors. Her addition to the Trinamool Congress adds to a slew of movie and television actors who have joined Mamata Banerjee's party over the years, many of whom have become members of the state assembly or the parliament.
