Oracle has fired thousands of employees in India amid its broader global workforce cut, as the fired staff members themselves share the information about the severance package they have received during this process.

The firings, which were said to have affected various sections including engineering and cloud infrastructures, began from the previous days. Some of the employees also claimed that their access to the internal systems has been taken away from them abruptly.

What employees say the severance included

According to multiple posts by affected workers, the severance package appears to be calculated based on tenure and base salary, along with additional components.

Employees reported receiving:

15 days’ base salary for each completed year of service

Encashment of unused leave

One month’s salary in lieu of notice

Gratuity, where applicable

Pending wages until the termination date

A two-month ex-gratia component, subject to agreement

Insurance support of around â‚č20,000

One month of ‘gardening leave’ pay or equivalent compensation

One user, claiming to be part of Oracle’s India Development Centre in Bengaluru, described the structure in detail, stating that the ex-gratia component included an additional 15 days’ salary per year of service along with a fixed two-month payout.

Conditional payouts and employee concerns

A key concern raised by employees is that parts of the severance package may be conditional. According to these accounts, the full payout is linked to signing a “voluntary and amicable” separation agreement.

This suggests that employees who do not accept the terms could receive a different compensation structure, though Oracle has not officially clarified this aspect.

Provided the information is correct, some employees will receive a total compensation of about three-and-a-half months' worth of salary. The exact figures will depend on the position, experience, and work unit.

The severance packages offered will vary from region to region. In the US, Oracle employees are reportedly paid one month of base salary for the first year of employment and one more month for each subsequent year of employment up to a maximum of 26 weeks, besides any other applicable rules under regional labour laws, such as the WARN Act.
