As the temperatures keep increasing in Delhi, fire emergency operations in the city have seen a sudden spike in the number of fire-related cases.

Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reports have shown an increase in calls for fire emergency operations in the city amid the ongoing scorching summer heat, according to Hindustan Times.

Officials say the number of fire emergency cases has been recorded to be around 40 per day, which is about 15 higher than what they get on a regular basis during the summer, where the average number of cases is around 30 to 35, per HT.

Increase in daily calls for fire services reported in Delhi

Over the past few days, DFS has recorded over 3,600 fire-related cases. Several big fires have also occurred recently, such as in the case of some industrial plants situated in the northwest part of the city. Fire officials say an increase in fire emergency cases, even by just a little, makes a big difference.

Authorities have attributed the rise in fire incidents to increased use of electrical appliances such as air conditioners, which puts pressure on aging wiring systems. Short circuits and electrical faults remain among the leading causes of these fires. Dry weather conditions during peak summer further allow flames to spread rapidly.

Fire accidents common in industries and business zones

Officials have urged residents and business owners to upgrade electrical systems, avoid overloading sockets, and ensure regular maintenance of appliances. They also stressed the importance of fire safety compliance, especially in factories, commercial buildings, and densely populated residential areas.
