Aleister Black, whose real name is Tom Budgen, is a Dutch wrestler who is recognized by his aggressive style and extremely symbolic character, which is mostly themed darkly.

Aleister became popular thanks to his stay in WWE, where he used his ring name, and AEW, where he used Malakai Black as his ring name. The style of his character is characterized by martial arts skills and elements of gothic and occult stories.

Moreover, the themes of mysticism, spirituality, and internal struggle play an important part in his performance, and in this way, they can be seen in his tattoos too.

Religious symbolism or just an aesthetic?

One of the most controversial tattoos of Aleister is the one of Kali (Maa Kali). In Hindu mythology, Maa Kali is one of the fierce goddesses connected with death and rebirth, destruction and creation, and, most importantly, overcoming darkness by light. Although Aleister does not relate his tattoo to religion, the symbolism is clear.

Mythological inspiration more than a tattoo

In addition to the tattoo, images of Aleister's character, inspired by Maa Kali, have been used during some of his entrance sequences and stage design, especially since leaving WWE.

In this respect, the use of murals and images that bear resemblance to the Hindu deity Maa Kali can be seen around the ring area and entrance ramp. This further helps add more layers of chaos, Shakti, and rebirth to his character.

Before joining WWE's NXT territory, Black had been competing in Europe, eventually rising to become NXT Champion in WWE's developmental brand. Well known for having an interesting spinning kick finishing move nicknamed the "Black Mass," he was quickly known as one of the most unique strikers in today's pro wrestling scene.

Story behind the unique persona

Although the religious symbolism associated with him and the imagery of Maa Kali is a point of intrigue among many wrestling fans, it plays a role in developing the complex storyline behind his persona.

Overall, combining religion from different parts of the world with elements of performance art has made Aleister Black a truly unique wrestler.
