Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone, who turns 40 on January 5, sent her fans into a frenzy just ahead of her birthday with an interactive fan meet. While fans cheered that she should team up with Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan, or Shah Rukh Khan to do a rom-com, Deepika shared her own wish to step into the genre again.
Asked when she would star in a rom-com, Deepika said, “I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my favourite genres, as an audience, and also as an actor. I just feel like the climate right now or the environment right now…I feel like the audience is seeking something else. But if so many of you want a rom-com, I’m sure that’s a large part of the public that wants that”

Fans rally for Ranveer Singh
The event quickly turned lively, with fans shouting the names of Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan, while the loudest cheers were for her husband, Ranveer Singh. When the host playfully asked Deepika to comment, she said, “Dhurandhar and all is alright,” with a smile, keeping it funny and light.
Rom-coms face producer hurdles
Deepika also expressed the difficulties in finding rom-com projects, mentioning that even she and her team are in search of scripts in lighter genres. " This is something that even my team and I keep looking out for constantly. We’re constantly looking for drama, love story, rom-com, these genres. But I feel like there are very few producers backing that kind of content or very few writing that right now," she said. The actor even asked her fans if they would mind seeing her in a rom-com released on an OTT platform instead of theatres, showing her openness to new-age formats.
