Music composer Palash Muchhal has landed in legal trouble after a case was registered against him over alleged casteist remarks made during a dispute involving money linked to a film production project.
According to a report by TV9 Marathi, the complaint was filed by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli and a childhood friend of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana. The case has been registered under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police have invoked Section 3(1) of the SC/ST Act along with Sections 351(2) and 352. Officials said the matter is currently under investigation.
The alleged incident reportedly took place on November 22 at a toll plaza on the Sangli–Ashta road. According to the complaint, an argument broke out between Mane and Palash after the former approached the composer regarding repayment of money allegedly given for a film production venture.
Police sources cited in the report said Mane claimed Palash had borrowed ₹25 lakh from him with the assurance that the project would be completed within six months.
Financial dispute at centre of complaint
Speaking to the media, Mane alleged that the dispute escalated after repeated attempts to recover the money failed.
“He had promised me he would complete the film in six months. But when I asked for the money back, he avoided me. During the confrontation, he used casteist language against me,” Mane alleged while speaking to local media, according to TV9 Marathi.
The complaint comes months after Palash’s personal life drew public attention following reports surrounding his cancelled wedding with Smriti Mandhana.

Palash and Smriti were expected to get married in November last year, but the wedding was reportedly postponed following a medical emergency involving the cricketer’s father. Rumours about trouble in the relationship later intensified after both unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Amid speculation, Palash had earlier shared a statement on social media saying he had “decided to move on” from the relationship and urged people not to judge based on “unverified gossip.”
Neither Palash Muchhal nor Smriti Mandhana has publicly commented on the latest case so far.
