The final trailer for Stranger Things dropped on Tuesday, offering a first full look at the showdown that will bring Netflix’s long-running series to an end. The finale episode, titled The Rightside Up, will premiere on Netflix on January 1 at 6.30 am IST.

The trailer confirms that the last chapter will run for two hours and eight minutes, making it the longest episode in the show’s history.

The footage shows the Hawkins group entering the Upside Down for what appears to be their final confrontation with Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower. Scenes from earlier seasons are intercut with new moments, including flashbacks to Dr Brenner and Henry Creel’s time at the Hawkins laboratory.

Hopper urges Eleven to fight one last time

The trailer opens with a quiet exchange between Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, and Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown. Hopper asks Eleven to fight back against everything that has been taken from her and the other children of Hawkins.

“I need you to fight one last time… Fight for a world beyond Hawkins. Let’s end this, kid,” Hopper tells her in the clip.

The final season also features Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Winona Ryder, Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink.

According to show creator Ross Duffer, the finale will also receive theatrical screenings across more than 620 theatres in the United States and Canada, scheduled for December 31 and January 1. He posted on his Instagram stating, "Over 1.1 million of you have already RSVPed to the finale screenings on NYE and New Year’s Day, and more than 3,500 showtimes across 620+ theaters are already completely full." These shows are being held as special fan events and will not generate traditional box-office revenue, with reservation fees converted into concession vouchers instead.

The creators first announced the theatrical plan in October as a limited release, which later expanded due to demand.

The series, created by the Duffer Brothers, began in 2016 and has since become one of Netflix’s most-watched original shows.
