CD Projekt Red has officially announced a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, bringing protagonist Geralt of Rivia back for another adventure more than a decade after the game's original release.
The expansion, titled Songs of the Past, is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The announcement ends months of speculation among fans about whether the studio would revisit one of the most successful role-playing games of all time.
In a statement published on its official blog, CD Projekt Red wrote: “Medallion's humming, which can only mean one thing. It's time to announce we're working on a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”

Geralt returns for a new chapter
While CD Projekt Red has confirmed Geralt's return, the company has not yet revealed details about the storyline, new locations, gameplay systems or the overall size of the expansion.
The studio said additional information will be shared in late summer 2026.
The project is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a development studio that includes several former Witcher 3 developers. The collaboration has generated interest among fans, given the team's familiarity with the original game and its mechanics.

The announcement appears to have surfaced earlier than intended after some users reportedly spotted information about the expansion through CD Projekt Red's RED Launcher before the planned reveal.
Addressing the situation, the company acknowledged the premature discovery and moved ahead with the announcement.
“We originally planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's say we found something we didn't yet expect on RED Launcher,” the studio said.
One of gaming’s most successful RPGs
Released in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely regarded as one of the defining role-playing games of its generation.
