The second season of Daredevil: Born Again begins with the introduction of a new character, Mr Charles, played by Matthew Lillard, whose presence immediately tips the balance of power in the series.

A new player with power over Fisk

Mr Charles is introduced in the first episode of the series, "The Northern Star." Mr Charles has direct power over Wilson Fisk, and he appears in the series after a weapons shipment from the Red Hook port is interrupted, providing cover for Fisk from any potential fallout.

Mr Charles has a conversation with Fisk and Vanessa, where he spells out what is expected of them. They need to keep things moving without any attention, and any loose ends need to be taken care of.

He also references Langley, suggesting a link to US intelligence agencies, though the show does not confirm his position.

Mr Charles as a logistics operator, a fixer who manages sensitive work behind the scenes and get things done. He is shown to have no hesitation in ordering extreme measures if required. There are also hints of a connection to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, placing him within a larger network of influence.

Not much from the comics

The character does not have a lot of background in Marvel Comics, making a brief appearance in previous content. This opens the doors for the series to develop the character as they see fit.

Mr. Charles represents a different kind of threat, one that does not involve street crime. This makes him a pressure point for Fisk, and the early tension between the two suggests that the alliance may not be as solid as previously thought.
