This is what one might call coincidence. Tathagata Chattopadhyay had planned to make a film based on Sandipon Chattopadhyay's novel 'S, Nipobane' 12 years ago. The director had proposed Srijit Mukherji for the lead role in the film. Although the discussions progressed somewhat, Srijit himself backed out midway. After a decade, that very film has somewhat turned around. This time Srijit offered Tathagata a role in his film.

From a shelved project to a new collaboration

He is acting in Srijit's film 'Emperor Versus Sharatchandra'. Tathagata has informed that shooting begins tomorrow. After 12 years, Srijit and Tathagata are finally working together. Regarding this, Tathagata says, 'Srijit-da had backed out thinking that acting might interfere with direction. He still hasn't made that film. I hold the rights to the novel. However, the film cannot be made without finding the right producer. Srijit-da still asks about the film whenever we meet.'

Tathagata is reluctant to say anything about which character he will be seen playing in the film. Besides acting, he has also thought about directing this year. He has informed that he is writing on several subjects including horror and science fiction. Some discussions are also ongoing. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Tathagata says, 'I will start work as soon as I get a producer. But I'm thinking about which one to do first. I might even do 'Paria 2'.'
