Ketan Agarwal’s family has accused Siya Goyal’s relatives of knowing about her relationship with Chetan Chaudhary before the Pune realtor was allegedly killed at Lohagad Fort on June 18.

The allegation adds another layer to a case already being investigated as a planned murder, with police saying the accused couple first tried to pass off the death as an accident.

A family friend turned stranger

Speaking to NDTV, Ketan’s grandfather alleged that Siya’s aunt and uncle had pushed for the match despite knowing about her affair. “We have known the girl's family for 35 years. How could they do this to us? Siya's uncle and aunt pushed for the match despite knowing about her affair,” he said.

Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, also questioned why Siya did not simply end the engagement if she was unhappy. “If she didn't want to get married, she could have simply refused. We would have cancelled the wedding immediately,” he said, adding that the family was disturbed by the way the case unfolded.

As investigators piece together the puzzle

Vishal Agarwal has also said the family had told Siya’s side about Ketan’s appearance. He said, “We had cleared to them (Siya Goyal's family) that Ketan used a small patch of wig on his head. Is this a reason to kill someone? As per my information, Siya wanted to go on the trek,” he said. The claim comes amid separate allegations that the relationship was hiding deeper tensions, which police say eventually culminated in a conspiracy to kill Ketan at the fort.

Police, meanwhile, have said that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have traded blame during custodial interrogation, but the evidence gathered so far points to Goyal as the alleged mastermind.

According to Pune Rural police, Goyal allegedly told Agarwal she did not want to marry him, while an officer said the murder plan was hatched by her. Investigators have also said the accused made multiple earlier attempts before the fatal incident, including alleged failed bids on May 31 and June 14.

The matter now reaches the highest table

The case has now drawn direct intervention from the Maharashtra government. After meeting Vishal Agarwal in Pune, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a fast-track court and appointed senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as special public prosecutor.

The chief minister’s office said, “We are committed to ensuring that the guilty receive the harshest punishment. No stone will be left unturned in delivering justice to the family,” while Fadnavis described the case as “extremely shocking.”

Police custody for the accused is set to continue as the probe moves ahead, with investigators also reconstructing the sequence of events at Lohagad Fort.
