A 33-year-old Noida woman’s death at her marital home in Bhopal has triggered a major controversy, with both families making serious allegations against each other.
While the woman’s family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental torture, the in-laws have denied the charges and claimed she was dealing with mental health issues, per a report by Hindustan Times.
The case is currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under provisions related to dowry death and abetment.

Mother-in-law makes explosive allegations
The woman’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, claimed during a press briefing that her daughter-in-law had undergone psychiatric counselling and was taking medication linked to schizophrenia-related symptoms.
She was further cited by Hindustan Times, referring to the abortion, “When she started the first course of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP), she said she wanted to reverse this, which I knew was not possible.”
The mother-in-law also claimed, “After coming here, all her supply of drugs was out. She confessed to consuming large quantities of marijuana when she wanted to reverse her pregnancy. A counselling session took place during that time… She was on schizophrenic drugs.”
According to her, the woman completed the MTP procedure on May 7 and later showed tremors and withdrawal-like symptoms.
Family alleges dowry harassment and torture
The deceased woman’s family has strongly rejected the allegations and accused the in-laws of dowry harassment, assault, and mental torture. They alleged that she had been under severe emotional stress after her marriage in December 2025.
In WhatsApp messages accessed by Hindustan Times, the woman reportedly wrote, “Mai to bohat buri tarah phas gayi hu.” In another message, she said, “Mujhe to bohat zyada ghutan ho rahi hai maa", per Hindustan Times.
The family also claimed that her husband questioned the pregnancy and allegedly asked, “Mujhe pooch raha hai vo kiska bacha tha.”

Police have formed a six-member SIT to investigate allegations linked to dowry harassment, assault, and possible destruction of evidence.

The post-mortem report reportedly indicates death by suicide, but the woman’s family has alleged multiple injury marks and demanded a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi.
